About Dr McPhee
Dr Sonarzu (Sonney) Gullu-McPhee | PsyD, MA, MSc, BSc (Hons), CPsychol
HCPC Registered | BPS Chartered Clinical Psychologist | ISST Certified Advanced Schema Therapist
I am a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with advanced postdoctoral training in Schema Therapy, EMDR, Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), CBT, DBT-informed interventions, and Polyvagal-informed approaches. I am regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the British Psychological Society (BPS), and I work in line with their professional and ethical guidelines.
My training includes an APA-accredited Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) completed in the United States, recognised for its rigorous clinical rotations, diagnostic depth, and high professional competency standards. I have also worked clinically across Hawaii, New Jersey, Turkiye, and the UK, which enables me to bring a culturally informed and nuanced understanding of identity, attachment, and the human experience into my work.
My approach is integrative, thoughtful, and grounded in research. Rather than relying on a single model, I draw from multiple evidence-based therapies to meet your unique needs — creating space for clear psychological formulation, emotional depth, nervous-system-focused techniques, and long-term change. I have extensive experience supporting individuals with complex trauma histories, emotional dysregulation, ADHD, relationship difficulties, and deep schema-driven patterns, and I work collaboratively to help you understand your inner world, process trauma safely, regulate emotions, and create lasting shifts in how you relate to yourself and others.

Assessment / Initial Consultation
Your first appointment is a 90-minute psychological assessment, designed to provide a clear and comprehensive understanding of your emotional wellbeing and therapeutic needs. During this session, we explore:
- your current symptoms and their impact
- how your difficulties developed
- emotional and relational patterns
- previous treatments or coping strategies
- significant life experiences
- any contributing childhood or developmental factors
- your values, strengths, and internal resources
Together, we create a joint psychological formulation — a shared understanding of what is happening and what will help.
You will also receive:
- an orientation to the therapeutic process
- clarity on recommended session frequency
- a sense of how we may work together
- space to ask questions
There is no obligation to continue therapy after this first session. If you decide to continue, we will arrange regular appointments that best support your therapeutic goals.
Therapy Sessions
Ongoing therapy sessions are 60 minutes (50 minutes of therapy + 10 minutes administration).
Therapy may be:
- short-term, for specific, recent issues
- medium-term, for patterns requiring deeper exploration
- long-term, for complex trauma, chronic emotional patterns, or longstanding schemas
I use an integrative, evidence-based approach, drawing from:
- Schema Therapy
- EMDR
- Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT)
- DBT-informed skills
- CBT
- Polyvagal-informed regulation
- Attachment-focused and trauma-informed interventions
The aim is not only symptom relief but deeper emotional healing, nervous system regulation, and lasting internal change.
Discussing Fees
Fees are not listed publicly because each person’s therapeutic needs and treatment plan are unique.
During the complimentary 15-minute consultation, we will discuss:
- the most clinically appropriate therapeutic pathway
- session structure and recommended frequency
- any additional support you may need
- appropriate fees
This ensures clarity and alignment before therapy begins.
Cancellations
Therapy sessions are reserved specifically for you. A minimum of 48 hours’ notice (two working days) is required to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations or missed sessions are charged in full.

Confidentiality
Your privacy and confidentiality are upheld in accordance with HCPC and BPS professional standards.
Everything shared in therapy remains confidential, except in rare situations where there is significant concern about harm to yourself or others. Whenever possible, I will always discuss these concerns with you before taking further steps.
I also attend regular clinical supervision, as required of all psychologists, to ensure high-quality and ethical practice. Clients are never identified, and only essential, anonymised clinical information is discussed.
