Anxiety Therapy in Hampshire

Do you battle with anxiety?

It’s normal to feel anxious from time to time when dealing with the various stresses in life. Living in a world that throws up challenges when you least expect them can be overwhelming, distressing, and induce feelings of fear in varying degrees. Whilst sometimes manageable, other times, anxiety can push you to a point where you feel completely crippled and paralysed with fear, unable to go about your everyday routine.

Uncontrolled anxiety can often stem from multiple factors and situations, ranging from early childhood traumas to unexpected events. Experiencing constant feelings of anxiousness can lead to both physical and mental disruptions. If you’re recurrently experiencing distressing symptoms due to your anxiety, it may be time to seek therapy.

I’m Dr McPhee, and I offer anxiety therapy as a solution for managing generalised anxiety disorder, social anxiety, panic disorder, and anxiety attacks. As a clinical psychologist, I focus on evidence-based therapy for panic attacks and anxiety stemming from psychological trauma. With my expert help and guidance, you will learn to manage your symptoms and lead a more fulfilling life.

Understanding Anxiety & Panic Disorders

Everyone feels anxious from time to time, but not everyone has an anxiety disorder. Worrying about an important meeting at work is normal, usually going away once the day is over. However, those with chronic anxiety carry multiple fears and worries that continually cause them distress and disruption. This makes it important to distinguish general worry from anxiety and understand its different types.

The common types of anxiety disorders are:

  • Generalised anxiety disorder (GAD)
  • Social anxiety disorder
  • Panic disorder
  • Other anxiety disorders, including separation anxiety, and phobias.

If you have anxiety, you may have intense fears and worries that last for a long time. This fear or worry can often be excessive in nature and may seem to worsen over time. With fear dominating your thoughts, you may actively avoid situations or tasks that trigger feelings of anxiety.

Uncontrolled fear can drive those affected to experience shortness of breath, sweating, chills, heart palpitations, chest pain, dizziness and a feeling of doom. A sudden episode of these intense feelings of fear and anxiety is called a panic attack, with those suffering from panic disorders experiencing recurrent episodes.

These feelings and behavioural changes disrupt the natural flow of life. They can harm personal and social relationships, general well-being, and a person’s ability to perform well at school or work.

If left untreated, anxiety symptoms can get complicated or worse over time. It might lead to pulling away from others, relying on drugs or alcohol, or even thinking about self-harm.

If you’re struggling to cope with chronic anxiety, fear or panic, reach out to me for panic disorder therapy. I will offer personalised guidance in managing your symptoms so you can lead a better life.

Challenges Addressed in Anxiety & Panic Disorders

My anxiety therapy sessions are designed to help you understand and manage anxiety in a way that feels safe and empowering. We often focus on:

Anxiety is more than just a reaction to stress—it often stems from deep-seated patterns formed early in life. We’ll explore where your fears come from and how past experiences may be shaping your current struggles.

When anxiety takes over, thoughts can feel uncontrollable. I’ll help you develop strategies to calm your mind, reduce overthinking, and feel more in control of your emotions.

Many people with anxiety struggle with a harsh inner voice that fuels self-doubt and fear. We’ll work on cultivating a more compassionate mindset, allowing you to feel safer and more supported within yourself.

Avoiding fears often makes anxiety stronger over time. We’ll gently challenge avoidance behaviors, using structured techniques to help you build confidence in facing anxiety-provoking situations.

Anxiety can make you feel like you’re constantly in survival mode. Therapy will help you shift from fear-driven patterns to a way of living that feels more grounded, secure, and aligned with who you truly are.

How Dr McPhee’s Anxiety Therapy Can Help

Therapy for anxiety helps you understand your feelings, identify triggers and adapt your reaction to them. It’s a powerful tool for reframing your negative thoughts and modifying your behaviours. I use a scientific, integrated evidence-based approach in my anxiety and panic disorder therapy sessions, far from the conventional single therapy mode.

My Integrated Anxiety Therapy Approach

My evidence-based therapeutic approach includes Schema therapy, CFT, CBT, and mindfulness techniques to help you stay calm and manage your feelings of anxiety, fear and panic. I guide you to develop better mind-body practices to regulate your triggers and create a better sense of emotional and physical well-being.

My sessions are tailored to your needs and may include:

Schema therapy recognises the maladaptive schemas and patterns that may have developed from childhood traumas or negative experiences in life.

CBT works on the link between your fear-filled thoughts and feelings and your emotions and behaviours.

CFT helps you manage anxiety by addressing self-criticism, shame, and fear with self-compassion. It works on the link between your inner critic, distressing emotions and behaviors, helping you build emotional resilience and a kinder relationship with yourself.

The mindfulness approach helps to bring back the focus to your current state of mind instead of pushing it into survival mode. Mindfulness practices establish a calm mind-body connection.

Whether you’re seeking therapy for GAD or panic attacks, I can help.
